The Mazda family has been continuously evolving and expanding in recent years. Today, we are talking about the brand's newest addition, the CX-70. It's worth noting that this model is closely related to the CX-90. However, unlike the latter, the new SUV from the Japanese manufacturer offers two rows of seats, improving its cargo space and the division of space for passengers. The best part is that the style, equipment level, and especially the mechanical aspects of the CX-70 allow it to compete not only with equivalent mainstream models but also with luxury mid-size SUVs to a certain extent.

The Mazda CX-70 is undoubtedly a premium vehicle. It's also surprisingly affordable given what it offers, and that's important to mention. In my opinion, the Japanese manufacturer's SUV is likely to become one of the most popular models in its segment very quickly.

Range and Pricing

The Mazda CX-70 2025 lineup is divided into two groups, starting with versions equipped with the turbocharged 6-cylinder inline engine. The adventure begins at $49,750 before transportation and preparation fees, a very attractive price for an SUV of this size with such a level of equipment. Then, there's the GT version at $54,350. Here, you get a more refined style and some additional features. The experience is further enhanced with the GT-P version. Finally, as if that weren't enough, the Signature version sits at the top of the range with a starting price of $62,300. This is truly a luxury vehicle for the general public

.

As for the other variety of the CX-70, it includes plug-in hybrid models. Here, there are two versions, starting with the CX-70 GS-L from $58,750. Then there's the GT version, with a starting price of $63,350.

Category and Competition

The mid-size SUV category gains new players every year, and the competition is becoming increasingly fierce. In fact, this is one of the few segments where you can truly indulge without necessarily trying to meet a particular need. That's why every vehicle in this category needs to be competitive. Mazda has pulled out all the stops with the CX-70, which is likely to become quite popular in the coming years.

Rivals: Chevrolet Blazer, Chevrolet Traverse, Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, Nissan Pathfinder, Subaru Ascent, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Grand Highlander, Volkswagen Atlas.

Design and Technologies

The surprise was less significant upon seeing the CX-70 than with the CX-90, revealed first, as the two SUVs are nearly identical. Nevertheless, the Japanese manufacturer's new SUV remains elegant. In fact, I'd even dare to say that it's among the most beautiful models in its segment.

As always, Mazda has managed to combine simplicity with great elegance in the CX-70's interior. The finish is top-notch, and the style is well thought out. I've never been a big fan of Mazda's infotainment screen, but that's just a matter of taste. I particularly like the division of interior space. With only two rows of seats, the available space is clearly visible, making the CX-70 much more interesting than the CX-90 in this regard. Of course, it all depends on whether or not you need that third row of seats.

On the technology side, the Japanese manufacturer's SUV lacks nothing, and the gadgets it offers are very effective. I particularly like the digital dashboard.

Performance

The Mazda CX-70 is a beautiful vehicle, and its interior offers an impressive level of comfort. As if that weren't enough, the Japanese manufacturer's SUV also shines mechanically with three engine options. First, there's a 3.3-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine producing 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. There's also a high-performance mild hybrid version of this same engine with a total output of 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque when using premium gasoline. Finally, if you opt for the plug-in hybrid version, you get a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor for a total output of 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque with premium gasoline. Regardless of the engine you choose, you get an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The PHEV version can also travel an average of 42 kilometers in 100% electric mode.

Weak Points

Mazda could have offered a Signature version with the plug-in hybrid powertrain. I would have liked the CX-70 to feature more distinct aesthetic differences compared to the CX-90.

Strong Points

It's a vehicle that certainly turns heads. Its interior is spacious and very comfortable. It offers a solid towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. All its powertrains are appealing.

Signature Element

The Mazda CX-70 2025 is not a vehicle chosen for its price, technical specs, or capabilities, as it already excels in all those areas. You choose it simply because it has everything needed to please.

Final Word

Mazda has been hitting home run after home run in recent years with its new vehicles, and the CX-70 is clearly no exception to the rule. It's a model that's poised to dominate its segment in no time.
